Okay I lied… you can usually find ice cream, chocolate covered raisins and lots of other yummy treats too. My grampa has a sweet tooth and I think I inherited it. Give it a try. OMG…I literally JUST threw these together…as in…when you see my comment it was less than 10 min. I was so excited to try it I took one piece threw it in the freezer to cool and OMG…I MEAN OH MY GREAT AND WONDERFUL GOD! Your grandmother knows what she is doing :. While be making a hundred times just this week! The first time I made this is was a huge success, but I used light brown sugar. The second time it went bad, and I used dark brown sugar. There must be something about less molasses in the sugar that makes these chewy and good! With the dark brown sugar it turned into sugary molasses taste, but no toffee. When you melt the butter and cook it for 3 minutes, do you wait till it come to a boil and start timing from there or from the time the butter and sugar are melted together? Found this recipe yesterday, made them finite. I HV put them in the freezer to see will they turn hard. Thanks I had these at a church Christmas party,and tried making a batch right away. My recipe is almost the same, except it calls for only 1 stick of butter. Could that be a function of not enough butter, or could it be that I packed my crackers too tightly together. Am going to try them again this week but will lay the saltines looser in the pan. Am going to continue with only 1 stick of butter unless I hear from you before that the butter may be one of my problems. By the way, I used dark brown sugar and the toffee itself was perfect.
